Aizen-Myoo, reviewed 6-26-08
Yuzu, kaki, and mikan with cherry blossom and black tea.

Wet on my skin, Aizen-Myoo is very fruity, with the mikan standing out the most. Dry, the cherry blossom is peeking out from behind the fruits. The black tea doesn't show at all. This is nice, but not something I'd wear all the time.

Anubis, reviewed 7-12-07
Holy myrrh, storax, balsam, and embalming herbs.

Wet on my skin, I got a whiff of incense smoke. Dry, I smell myrrh and herbs. Really, this must be what a temple to Anubis smelled like. It's not really me, but I do like it and I may get a bottle.

Baron Samedi, reviewed 5-25-07
Our spin on traditional Bay Rum.

On me, Baron Samedi's mostly rum, but I also got whiffs of earth, caramel, and nuts while it was still wet. I think Capt. Jack Sparrow would definitely approve of this one, but it's not for me.

Centzon Totochtin, reviewed 8-02-07
The Four Hundred divine rabbits of the Aztec pantheon that preside over parties and drunkenness. Bittersweet Mexican cocoa with rum, red wine, and a scent redolent of sacrificial blood.

In the imp and wet on my skin, Centzon Totochtin is pure chocolate! Oh, why can't Bliss smell this good on me? It's rich and smooth and I really, really want to lick my wrist. Drying, the rum and wine start to come through. I think the blood might be in the back somewhere. I love this and I really, really want a bottle.

Now I know what BPAL I'll wear next Easter -- chocolate bunnies!

Czernobog, reviewed 4-27-08
A combination of three musks, with splashes of dark myrrh, vetiver and mullein.

The previous reviewer put it best -- on me, Czernobog is "piney, musky, and sweet." It could practically be a Yule blend. I love it.

Eve, reviewed 6-06-07
Apple blossom, rose, ylang ylang and golden honey.

As soon as I opened the imp, I was convinced that I had a mislabeled imp of Persephone -- the rose and apple smelled just like Persephone's rose and pomegranate. But once dry, I could recognize the apple as apple. I've never smelled ylang ylang before and I don't smell any honey. This is a gorgeous scent. I'm definitely putting a bottle of Eve on my wishlist.

Gaueko, reviewed 10-03-08
Blackened sandalwood and misty lavender, with curling wisps of smoky tobacco, nag champa, and labdanum.

On me, Gaueko is mostly lavender which, as usual, smells too medicinal. Someone else can have this.

Hades, reviewed 7-10-07
Black narcissus and cypress, stephanotis, opoponax, labdanum, onycha and ambergris.

Hades is my favorite Greek god (thank you, Disney), so I would've bought this no matter what was in it. In the imp and on my skin, Hades smells like dark floral and woods. It's like stumbling across a cavern full of flowers and trees that never see the sunlight, but are beautiful in the darkness. As it dries, it turns into a darker, more masculine version of Asphodel. Hades is a good complement to Persephone, naturally, but definitely a gender neutral scent. I love it and I'll put a bottle on my wishlist.

Hecate, reviewed 7-11-07
Deep, buttery almond layered over myrrh and dark musk.

In the imp, I could smell almonds and something else. Nice but not really my thing. On my skin, Hecate started to burn a little but it definitely turned my skin red, so I had to wash it off without getting a good whiff of it. As far as I know, I'm not sensitive to the three listed notes, so I have no idea where the irritant contact dermatitis came from. In any case, I'm definitely passing Hecate on to someone else.

Kali, reviewed 7-15-08
Cassia, hibiscus, musk rose, Himalayan wild tulip, lotus and osmanthus swirled with offertory dark chocolate, red wine, tobacco, balsam and honey.

In the imp, Kali is dark chocolate and something else, maybe wine. On my skin, however, it quickly changes to bubblegum -- the lotus morphs and amps to the point where that's all I can smell. Someone else can have this.

Kurukulla, reviewed 7-17-08
Three lotus blooms and three roses.

In the imp, Kurukulla is a sour tea rose. On my skin, it's lotus-turned-bubblegum over the rose. Not horrid, but definitely not worth keeping.

Mania, reviewed 9-12-07
Screeching white musk collides with a howl of red musk, with sharp white grapefruit and pale strawberry leaf.

In the imp and wet on my skin, Mania is pure strawberries. Dry, it's strawberries with a musk base. I love it but I already have a bottle of Maenad, so I'll have to wait before I get a bottle of this.

Nemesis, reviewed 11-03-08
Cypress, ginger, fig, dried rose, red patchouli, tonka bean and cyclamen.

Wet on my skin, Nemesis is all red patchouli. As it dries, the rose and what I think is the cyclamen start to come through. This is nice, but I was really hoping for the cypress. I'll age this and see if it comes out.

Nyx, reviewed 8-01-07
Night-blooming jasmine, warmed by myrrh, lifted by the promise of rose.

In the imp and wet on my skin, Nyx had a pretty floral smell. I think I was getting more jasmine than rose. Unfortunately, it started to burn. As far as I know, I'm not sensitive to any of the listed ingredients, so I don't know what caused the reaction.

Ochosi, reviewed 6-13-07
His ofrenda is the soft shea he shares with Obatala, forest herbs, and sprucewood arrow shafts.

I'm not familiar with any of the notes, but Ochosi has a very fresh, outdoors smell. Like maybe the forest after it rains. I can't really describe it better than that. Ochosi's definitely a gender neutral scent. I love it, even though it's definitely not a typical favorite. I'll definitely put this on my wishlist.

Odin, reviewed 10-18-07
Dry elm bark, amaranth, warrior’s musk, and Odin’s Nine Herbs of Power.

Odin on me seems to be musk and wood. Very sexy but not me. I'll keep this imp but I won't get a bottle.

Olokun, reviewed 11-07-08
... His ofrenda is the scent of the lightless deep: the glorious, unknowable gloom of the ocean floor.

On me, Olokun is a salty aquatic and green scent. It's nicer than I was expecting, but more for the warmer months.

Peitho, reviewed 11-30-07
Lusty myrtle and jasmine with red sandalwood, stargazer lily, and clove over an opulent, rich bed of warm musk and bourbon vanilla.

All I get from Peitho is plumeria. Nice but not what I'm looking for. This is another one for the give-away pile.

Pele, reviewed 2-18-08
Muguet and Hawaiian white ginger enveloped by warm, damp tropical blooms.

On me, Pele is a very light though long-lasting floral. She's pretty but not me, so I'll pass her along.

Persephone, reviewed 4-06-07
Pomegranate and rose.

Persephone is one of my favorite Greek goddesses, so I would've bought this without even knowing what was in it. Having said that, this blend is exquisite. In the imp and on my skin, I smell roses with a tart, fruity base. I've never smelled pomegranate before, so I assume it's that. I can't stop sniffing my wrists.

Santa Muerte, reviewed 9-16-08
Lovers’ roses, solemn chrysanthemum, dark vetiver and dazzling cactus flowers.

Wet on my skin, Santa Muerte is chrysanthemum and vetiver. Dry, tea rose starts to come through as well. This is a lot nicer than I was expecting.

Xiuhtecuhtli, reviewed 09-04-08
Copal, plumeria and sweet orange and the smoke of South American incense and crushed jungle blooms.

On me, Xiuhtecuhtli is straight orange creamsicle. I love it.

Yemaya, reviewed 4-23-07
Her ofrenda is a bounty of melons and grapes, strewn with the petals of the flowers of motherhood, draped with sea mosses.

Yemaya smells just like a watermelon Jolly Rancher, not that I'm complaining. There might be another melon, but nothing else. It's a good summer scent.

The Gratiae
Thalia, reviewed 5-27-08
Plumeria, pear and white champagne.

Wet on my skin, Thalia is pear and a little bit of plumeria over champagne. As it dries, the plumeria vanishes and the pear gets stronger and deeper. It's a very feminine, summery scent. I love it!

The Norns
Verdandi, reviewed 7-11-08
Deep herbs and apple with black amber.

On me, Verdandi is spiced apple over amber. I was expecting it to be more of a green scent, but this is gorgeous.

The Kindly Ones
Tisiphone, reviewed 6-10-07
Oleander with black patchouli, ylang ylang, and neroli.

As far as I know, they don't have any notes in common, but Tisiphone smells like a darker version of Euterpe or a more feminine Azathoth. Either my nose is still untrained or it's how they react to my skin chemistry. Either way, Tisiphone's gorgeous. Part floral, part masculine cologne, all good. I'll definitely put her on my wishlist.
