Sin & Salvation

Sin and Salvation
Dirty, reviewed 10-15-08
A fresh, crisp white linen scent: perfectly clean, perfectly breezy.

On me, Dirty is linen that has just been washed in floral-scented detergent. It's light and pretty, not soapy at all. I think this would be a good scent for someone new to BPAL.

Fallen, reviewed 9-26-08
Cherubic white sandalwood and golden musk with a dark halo of amber, a breath of imperial florals, unbending woods, and the shadow cast by vetiver and violet.

On me, Fallen seems to be florals and woods and a hint of musk. I like it, I just wish it were stronger.

Hymn, reviewed 6-09-07
Perfect rose absolute and Palestinian Lily of the Valley with olibanum, labdanum, frankincense and myrrh.

I'll start by saying I was wary about trying Hymn since frankincense and myrrh make up the incense used at Mass and I'm not fond of that smell. Thankfully, I don't smell them at all. What I do smell is lily of the valley with a rose base. If these are church flowers, they're flowers in the church's garden, not in the chapel. The flowers smell so good together that I'm definitely putting a bottle of this on my wishlist.

Jailbait, reviewed 9-27-07
Sticky pink bubblegum and the thick, sweet scent of orange and cherry lollipops smeared over a breath of heady womanly perfume.

In the imp and wet on my skin, Jailbait is just bubblegum. Unfortunately, the naughty girl bit me so I have to send her away.

Languor, reviewed 10-17-07
Paperwhite and black narcissus, three lilies, black poppy and tuberose and a hint of hypnotic opium den haze.

Languor on me is white floral. Too light to be heady but very pretty just the same. I'll keep it around.

Malediction, reviewed 8-14-08
Contains red patchouli and vetivert.

On me, Malediction is more patchouli than vetiver. It's a very deep, dark scent and while interesting, it's not me.

Oblivion, reviwed 4-02-08
Dark musk, wood spice, labdanum, patchouli, dark African woods, and saffron.

Wet on my skin, Oblivion's a sexy, spicy woods and musk scent. Unfortunately, it started to burn. This may be one worth getting a scent locket for.

Penitence, reviewed 5-27-08
Smell sanctified! A blend of pure, pious frankincense and graceful myrrh.

Honestly, I didn't think I'd like Penitence. Frankincense and myrrh aren't usually notes I get excited about. But when it's just the two of them together, something good happens. The frankincense seems sweeter than usual and the myrrh beneath it is deeper than usual. I'm definitely keeping this one around.

Roadhouse, reviewed 12-02-07
Weedy dandelion and hops with a whiff of tobacco and hemp and a swirl of booziness.

Wet on my skin, Roadhouse is dandelion single note, with the stem and leaves coming through very well. Dry, the booze shows up. Surprisingly, I like this scent, though I wouldn't wear it every day.

Rose Cross, reviewed 3-21-08
Purest rose with sacred frankincense.

On me, Rose Cross is mostly tea rose with frankincense way in the back. It's nice but not really me. Still, I'll keep it around.

Sea of Glass, reviewed 6-09-08
A scent of inimitable purity, crystalline grace, and limitless light.

In the imp and on my skin, Sea of Glass is an aquatic, slightly salty floral. It's very close to Tempest and Pool of Tears. I can maybe get a crystalline note, but on me, Sea of Glass is definitely more Sea than Glass. I'll keep it for now.

Seraphim, reviewed 6-29-08
Calla lily, wisteria, white sandalwood, Damascus rose and frankincense.

Wet on my skin, Seraphim is soapy rose. Dry, it's rose, lily, and wisteria. This is very pretty and feminine. I'd say it's a keeper.

Sin, reviewed 5-02-08
Thoroughly corrupted: amber, sandalwood, black patchouli and cinnamon.

Wet on my skin, Sin is patchouli over sandalwood. Nice, but then the cinnamon started to burn so I had to wash it off. Someone else can have this.

Vice, reviewed 2-01-08
A deep chocolate scent, with black cherry and orange blossom.

In the imp, Vice is chocolate and cherries. Wet on my skin, it's a lot of milk chocolate (hello, Bliss) and some cherries. Maybe a little orange in the background. Dry, the cherries are in front, the chocolate is in the back, and the orange is gone. This is good, but I wish the chocolate were stronger. I'll definitely keep it, though.

Come and See
The Bow and Crown of Conquest, reviewed 5-10-08
Nobility and haughtiness befitting the Antichrist: sage, carnation and cedar with lavender, vanilla, white musk and leather.

Wet on my skin, The Bow and Crown of Conquest is sage, cedar, musk, leather, and vanilla. Dry, it's cedar and vanilla over musk. The lavender doesn't show at all, which is good since it doesn't always work on me. This is absolutely gorgeous.

The Great Sword of War, reviewed 10-04-07
Mandarin, tonka, saffron, black tea, cocoa, tobacco leaf, sanguine red musk and five classical herbs of conflict.

On me, The Great Sword of War is lemon with a hint of cocoa and a whiff of tobacco over herbs. It's light and neutral. I like this one a lot and I definitely want a bottle.

The Seven Deadly Sins
Envy, reviewed 6-23-08
Green herbs slithering through mint, lime and lavender.

Wet on my skin, Envy is a lot of lavender and a little bit of the green herbs, none of which I can identify. Dry, the herbs show more and they seem to be stronger than the lavender, which is really medicinal on me. Some of the mint is present as well. I don't get any lime at all. This is nice but it's not really me.

Pride, reviewed 9-23-08
Moroccan rose and narcissus.

On me, Pride is rose (more tea rose than anything else) tempered with narcissus. This is so lovely. I wish the narcissus were stronger, but maybe age will help that.

Wrath, reviewed 12-28-07
A scent aflame with rage, swirling in the red haze of hatred: dragon's blood spiked with black pepper, clove, and cinnamon.

I thought for sure Wrath would burn, so I'm pleasantly surprised it didn't. On me, it smells like dragon's blood (which my skin turns to plumeria) and the barest hint of cinnamon. Nice but not my favorite db scent.
