Ahathoor (formerly of Excolo), reviewed 12-18-07
Hail unto Thee who art Ahathoor in Thy triumphing, even unto Thee who art Ahathoor in Thy beauty, who travellest over the heavens in thy bark at the Mid-course of the Sun. Tahuti standeth in His splendour at the prow, and Ra-Hoor abideth at the helm. Hail unto Thee from the Abodes of Morning!

Wet on my skin, Ahathoor is incense resin. Dry, it turns a bit powdery but still a nice scent. I like it but it's not a favorite.

Antique Lace (formerly of Bewitching Brews), reviewed 6-16-07
A soft, wistful blend of dry flowers, aged linens, and the faint breath of long-faded perfumes.

In the imp, Antique Lace smells like vanilla and sugar. To be specific, it smells really close to Vanilla Fields, which was my signature scent before I discovered BPAL. Wet on my skin, it wavers between sugared vanilla and coconut. Drying, the coconut is going away (thank goodness!) and sugared florals start to peek through the vanilla. Specifically, violets. In other words, Antique Lace on my skin smells like Faith and vanilla. I'll definitely be glad to have this when the Carnaval Diabolique leaves town.

This is the 50th BPAL scent I've tried! And I've only been wearing them for just under three months!

Asphodel (formerly of Rappaccini's Garden), reviewed 5-30-07
The grey and ghostly flower that fills the fields of Hades.

To me, Asphodel is straight plumeria. Just gorgeous! I smell like I'm back in Hawaii, sitting in my backyard and smelling the plumeria tree. It's a very light, summery scent.

Bat-Woman (formerly of The Salon), reviewed 4-06-08
Ratkirani, calla lily, moonflower, honeysuckle, night-blooming jasmine, French lavender, verbena, grey amber and nighttime air.

Wet on my skin, Bat-Woman is a soapy white floral. Dry, all I think I'm getting is moonflower and lavender. And the soap. I'm blaming this one on my hormones, so I'll try it again in a week or so.

Black Opal (formerly of Bewitching Brews), reviewed 5-18-08
A play of geological darkness and jagged brilliance. Soft and luminescent with flashes of black fire.

On me, Black Opal is soft (almost the point of powdery) and dark. It's very sophisticated and lovely, something I'd recommend for someone new to BPAL.

Calliope (formerly of Excolo), reviewed 8-13-07
Lavender and bright mint with bergamot, verbena, thyme and a touch of sweet orange and warm almond.

Strangely enough, all I got from Calliope was Lemon Pledge. Then the mint burned and I had to wash it off. Hopefully, it'll work better on someone else's skin.

The Candy Butcher (formerly of Carnaval Diabolique), reviewed 6-01-07
Dark chocolate with a heavy cream undertone.

In the bottle and wet on my skin, The Candy Butcher smells like dark chocolate and very yummy. But before it even dries, my body chemistry turns it to coconut and amps it. Coconut isn't a bad scent, really, but it's not what I wanted. But I'm sure The Candy Butcher will make someone else very happy.

Ephemera (formerly of Bewitching Brews), reviewed 6-09-08
The scent of loss, love and the echo of time without end: sorrowful violet and chamomile with muguet, white geranium, calla lily and tea rose with a hint of autumn leaves.

Ephemera certainly lives up to its name. On me, it's muguet and calla lily with a little bit of tea rose and maybe a hint of violet. It's so light that it's hard to be certain. I like it, don't get me wrong, but I don't see myself wearing it often.

~

Erato (formerly of Excolo), reviewed 1-28-08
A crush of roses with sweet pea, myrrh, ylang ylang, orris and stephanotis.

In the bottle, Erato is tea rose and a few other roses. Wet on my skin, she's tea rose and one other rose over myrrh. Very strong, dark, and sexy. Dry, it's lighter but still very nice. I'm glad I got a bottle.

Eris (formerly of Excolo), reviewed 4-09-07
Wet fruits and sharp mimosa with Martial spices and a deceptive flash of floral.

Eris on me smells like a lighter, creamier Euterpe. Not that that's a bad thing, I just was expecting something totally different. This imp is going into my aging pile. Maybe after it's aged it'll smell more distinctive.

Euterpe (formerly of Excolo), reviewed 3-31-07
Carnation and white poppy, honeysuckle, lemon, iris and white musk.

I get the same scent on my skin as I did in the frimp -- floral, some musk, and a hint of lemon. I don't smell honeysuckle at all and I wouldn't know white poppy if I smelled it, but the carnation and iris are pretty clear. It's a very feminine scent, perfect for summer.

The Fairy Market (formerly of Stardust), reviewed 12-09-07
Otherworldy golden incense, blooming wind-flowers, everlasting lavender, bluebell, a faint whiff of exotic sugared candies, and fae mist upon wet green grass.

On me, The Fairy Market is sugared florals and a little bit of grass. I love it and I think it'll be even better aged.

Gluttony (formerly of Sin and Salvation), reviewed 3-17-08
Dark chocolate, vanilla, buttercream, and hops with pralines, hazelnut, toffee and caramel.

It's not listed, but Gluttony on me is almost pure honey. It's not a bad scent, but not what I was expecting. Still, I'll keep this and see if it ages into something better.

The Great Red Dragon and the Woman Clothed With the Sun (fomerly of The Salon), reviewed 7-07-08
Daemonorops, vanilla, Indian sandalwood, Mexican copal, hyssop, muguet, sweet pea, amber, hazelwood, galbanum, hiba wood, and orchid.

On me, The Great Red Dragon and the Woman Clothed With the Sun is floral, a hint of vanilla, and a hint of woods. I can't pick out any individual floral notes, but I'm not complaining -- this scent is gorgeous.

The Hesperides (formerly of Bewitching Brews), reviewed 1-08-08
Their perfume is that of sturdy oak bark, dew-kissed leaves, twilight mist and crisp apple.

On me, The Hesperides is just light, juicy green apple. It's very pretty and definitely a warm weather scent.

I Died for Beauty (formerly of Bewitching Brews), reviewed 6-17-08
The Venusian splendor of ylang ylang and violet stirred by hyssop, frankincense, and grave loam.

On me, I Died for Beauty seems to be frankincense, hyssop, and ylang ylang over a little bit of violet, no grave loam anywhere. It doesn't have much throw, but up close, it's almost like a darker, more sophisticated version of Exclamation. Granted, I haven't worn Exclamation in years, so my memory of it is probably fuzzy. Still, this is a very nice scent.

Ile De La Tortue (formerly of Wanderlust), reviewed 10-11-11
Damp air trapped in limestone caverns, heady greenery, hothouse orchids, nicotiana blossoms, bois de chandel, elemi, palm wine, garambullo, pega-pega, flame of the forest, and a swirl of Haitian vetiver.

In the imp and on my skin: Tropical, green florals. The orchid is front and center. No vetiver at all to ground this. It's nice, but it smells like half a dozen other imps I have.

Jester (formerly of Illyria), reviewed 7-24-07
Huckleberry and red currant with the incisive bite of neroli.

I put Jester on without remembering what the notes were. In the imp and wet on my skin, I got fruit salad. I'm not familiar at all with huckleberry and only a little familiar with red currant. What I think I'm smelling is neroli and huckleberry together with a red currant base. All I know is that it's good, strong, and a bright and happy scent. This jester is all smiles.

Kostnice (formerly of Wanderlust), reviewed 12-04-07
Frankincense, rosewood, lily, and geranium rose.

Kostnice on me smells like frankincense, a little floral, and a hint of vetiver. It's nice but I think it needs to age a bit, so I'll keep it around.

Loviatar (formerly of Excolo), reviewed 9-25-08
The slap of slick, hot leather punctuates the warm, sensual embrace of black amber, red musk and dark, lascivious myrrh.

On me, Loviatar is red musk and myrrh, with the leather and black amber somewhere in the back. It's nicer than I expected.

Marae (formerly of Atomic Luau Lounge), reviewed 6-02-08
Vanilla orchid, Monoi tiare, gardenia, and light incense.

Wet on my skin, Marae is mostly gardenia. Dry, a light bubblegum scent takes over. I think vanilla orchid is the culprit since I got the same reaction with Opuhi. Someone else can have this.

Masabakes (formerly of Diabolus), reviewed 11-04-08
Thick black currant with the darkest, deepest myrrh, a drop of bitter mimosa and the slightest touch of mandrake dust.

Wet on my skin, Masabakes starts out as black currant and myrrh. The mimosa lightens things up as it dries, and I think there's the mandrake dust coming through now that it's fully dry. I was expecting it to be darker, but I do like it.

Melpomene (formerly of Excolo), reviewed 11-18-08
Dark cypress with mint, geranium, Bulgar lavender, orange blossom and passion flower.

On me, Melpomene is mostly lavender with some other floral in the background. Unfortunately, the lavender smells really medicinal on me, so I'll have to pass this on.

Midnight (formerly of Ars Moriendi), reviewed 8-17-07
Evening primrose, ruellia, flowering nicotiana, wild petunia, panani-o-kai, night phlox, night gladiolus, moonflower and the elusive scent of Nottingham Catchfly.

As strange as it sounds, when I first put Midnight on, it smelled like mustard. Yeah, no idea where that came from. Thankfully, that smell went away, but now it smells like light floral and eucalyptus. I don't know where the eucalyptus is coming from, since it's not listed. Midnight's not bad, but I won't be getting a bottle of this.

Midnight on the Midway (formerly of Carnaval Diabolique), reviewed 7-26-07
Sugared incense and night-blooming flowers.

In the bottle, Midnight on the Midway smells like a lot of sugar, some incense, and a little bit of flowers. Wet on my skin, there's no incense at all. It's sugar and flowers, sweet and heady. Drying, it smells like sugared Poisson d'Avril. There's the same Spring flowers, only now they're sugar-dusted. I can't complain, really. If I'm out of Poisson d'Avril when the Carnaval's about to leave, I'll stock up on this.

The Mock Turtle's Lessons (formerly of Mad Tea Party), reviewed 9-08-07
Blurry aquatic notes, with a confusing, contrary splort of iris, ambrette, green apple, vodka, white mint and a squish of lime.

What I think I'm getting from The Mock Turtle's Lessons is an aquatic note, iris, apple, and lime. It's very pretty and very light. Perfect for summer. Thank you, Labbies, for this frimp, since this is one I'm definitely keeping.

Moon Rose (formerly of Rappaccini's Garden), reviewed 4-08-07
A crisp, pale, almost translucent rose dusted by moonflower and midnight dew.

Moon Rose smells of wet roses and another floral, which must be moonflower but I can't be sure since I've never smelled that. It's very feminine and pretty and I think it would be excellent for rose devotees of any age. I'll definitely get a bottle of this.

5 out of 5 stars!

~

Nuit (formerly of Excolo), reviewed 3-19-08
White musks, white rose and night-blooming jasmine with the soft moss of moonlit meadows, a waft of Egyptian incense, and a gentle breath of moonflower.

On me, Nuit is rose and moonflower with a hint of jasmine and a white musk base. She's Moon Rose's older sister, very pretty and feminine. I love it.

~

Opuhi (formerly of Atomic Luau Lounge), reviewed 5-21-08
Ginger blossom and vanilla orchid.

In the bottle, Opuhi is vanilla and spice. On my skin, it turned to a light bubblegum scent, as if there's lotus hiding in it. Then it started to burn so I had to wash it off. Someone else can enjoy this.

Penthus (formerly of Excolo), reviewed 1-27-08
Salt tears over white roses, the fumes of thin funereal incense and the hollowness of calamus.

In the bottle and wet on my skin, Penthus smells like Irish Spring. Not soapy, just a really clean, fresh scent. Dry, it's saltwater, white rose, and something green. Still fresh and very pretty. I'm glad I got a bottle.

Phantom (formerly of Diabolus), reviewed 12-19-07
Myrrh, dark musk, attar of rose and ylang ylang.

First on, Phantom is musk, myrrh, and a little rose. Very sexy. Then the rose turns to floral soap and I can't smell anything else. Someone else can enjoy this.

~

Phantom Queen (formerly of Diabolus), reviewed 8-07-08
Black orchid, apple blossom, meadowsweet, and rue over Irish moss, hawthorn and red clover.

On me, Phantom Queen is just apple blossom over orchid. This is really pretty, but I'm hoping age will bring out more notes.

~

Polyhymnia (formerly of Excolo), reviewed 12-20-07
Orris root, white sage, rowan bark and red sandalwood, with myrrh, rosemary, lemon balm and honeysuckle.

On me, Polyhymnia is pure Lemon Pledge. I'll pass this on to someone with more cooperative skin chemistry.

~

Psyche (formerly of Ars Amatoria), reviewed 2-26-08
Bulgar rose, Chinese white musk, lavender, orchid and frankincense.

Wet on my skin, Psyche is rose and lavender, somewhat faint. Lavender always smells too medicinal on me. As it dries, it's stronger and the other notes show through. It's pretty but there's still too much lavender for my taste.

Rage (formerly of Diabolus), reviewed 10-15-07
Black amber erupting with a dark volcanic surge of fiery dragon's blood and a burst of melati, rose geranium, mandarin and black currant.

In the imp and wet on my skin, Rage was just patchouli. I don't know where that came from. Dry, it's a hint of dragon's blood (plumeria on my skin), mandarin, and maybe black currant. Rage is nice (though too pretty to live up to its name) but it's really light. I'll keep it around for now.

Rangoon Riptide (formerly of Atomic Luau Lounge), reviewed 5-07-08
Pineapple, mandarin orange, raspberry, passion fruit, and rum.

I seem to get all the notes of Rangoon Riptide on my skin, but something about it seems a little off on me. I just realized what's wrong -- it's turning into a boozy, fruity powder on me. It would probably smell great on someone else, so I'll pass it on.

Saint-Germain (formerly of Bewitching Brews), reviewed 8-17-10
He is a Hermetic Magician's hero for the ages, and his scent is an elegant, timeless, truly refined cologne, bold yet classic: gilded amber, hypnotic lavender, brash carnation and deep mosses.

In the imp, Saint-Germain is all lavender. On my skin, it's lavender with something green in the background. Probably the moss. Amazingly, the lavender doesn't smell medicinal, like it usually does on me. Saint-Germain's nice but not really me.

Screeching Parrot, reviewed 5-08-08
Golden rum, apricot liquor, pineapple, pomegranate, ginger, brandy, grapefruit, and pink lime.

On me, Screeching Parrot is pineapple and some pomegranate with a hint of the apricot liquor. It's nice and I'm hoping it'll age into something gorgeous.

Shroud (formerly of Ars Moriendi), reviewed 8-18-08
Dry white sandalwood wrapped in thin woods, soft grasses and the lightest white flowers layered over cajeput and the warm, deep scent of embalming herbs.

Wet on my skin, Shroud is a clean floral. Dry, it crosses the line into soapy. I'll try this once more before I decide its fate.

Silence (formerly of The Salon), reviewed 9-27-08
White sandalwood, iris, blue musk, lotus root, moonflower, plum blossom, green tea, white mint and white peach.

Sophia (formerly of Excolo), reviewed 5-05-08
A solemn, deeply profound draught of lavender, soft musks, star jasmine, black rose, delphinium, and gentle spice.

On me, Sophia is lavender and jasmine over what I think it white musk. It's really soft and light, very feminine.

Sundew (formerly of Rappaccini's Garden), reviewed 8-20-07
A carnivorous enchantress: diverse, lovely and graceful, emitting a sticky, glowing golden, sweet and terminally inviting scent. Its dew is believed to grant eternal beauty and longevity, and restore vitality and vigor to the magician.

Sundew is a very light, bright floral. It's a little too light and simple for me but I'm glad I got to try it. I'll keep this imp but I won't get a bottle.

Suspiro (formerly of Ars Amatoria), reviewed 3-28-08
Ylang ylang with white plum, white orchid, jasmine, calla lily and lily of the valley.

Wet on my skin, Suspiro is mostly jasmine with lilies in the background. Dry, the plum is also present. This is lovely!

Tempest (formerly of Bewitching Brews), reviewed 4-25-08
A crisp ozone-tinged breeze. The scent of the first gentle rain before the storm.

On me, Tempest is an aquatic, green floral. It's the smell of walking through a garden in the rain. I like it but I don't see myself getting a bottle.

Terpsichore (formerly of Excolo), reviewed 8-14-07
Vanilla and carnation with neroli, iris, stephanotis, sweet pea, apple blossom and palmarosa.

Terpsichore smells absolutely lovely. I tried it on before looking at the description -- the notes I got were fruit and white musk, but musk isn't listed. Unfortunately, it started to burn a bit so I had to wash it off. But I highly recommend it for anyone without sensitive skin who likes fruity, feminine blends.

Thaleia (formerly of Excolo), reviewed 7-18-08
Honey, ylang ylang, apricot, ciste, blood orange and gardenia with earthy, warm tonka.

In the imp and wet on my skin, Thaleia is mostly gardenia and very pretty. As it dries, a bubblegum note starts to show. Did lotus blossom crash the party? Dry, it's just orange. This is nice but I'll pass it on.

Urania (formerly of Excolo), reviewed 12-29-07
Moonflower, Moroccan jasmine, benzoin, white musk, iris, moss and a flash of ozone.

In the imp and wet on my skin, Urania is iris and moss, very green. Wet on my skin, a hint of benzoin shows through. Dry, the iris and moss fade a bit while the white musk starts show. Urania is light, feminine, and very lovely.

Utrennyaya (formerly of Excolo), reviewed 6-29-08
Osmanthus, Damascus rose, violet, delphinium, white mint, palmarosa and white sandalwood.

Violet Ray (formerly of Phoenix Steamworks), reviewed 7-08-08
White mint, purple musk, violet, lilac, ylang ylang, lavender moss, and sandalwood.

Wet on my skin, Violet Ray is violet, lilac, and ylang ylang over musk. It's absolutely gorgeous, even though the violet is on the powdery side. Dry, it's just violet and musk, but still good. I'm hoping age will make the notes present in the wet stage last longer.

Yerevan (formerly of Wanderlust), reviewed 1-26-08
Apricot and pomegranate with deep plum, wild roses, two Middle Eastern pale musks, white orchid, iris and sweet roots.

In the bottle and wet on my skin, Yerevan is equal parts apricot and pomegranate. Drying, there's also a hint of rose. Dry, the apricot has pushed the pomegranate to the background. This is lovely and I can see myself wearing it often during the summer.

Zorya (formerly of Excolo), reviewed 4-24-07
Spices of the Orient mingle with crystalline musk, midnight flowers and cereus, jasmine, primrose and vesper iris.

I didn't get anything but floral from Zorya, not that I'm complaining. My nose keeps telling me there's honeysuckle, even though it's not listed. Maybe if I let the imp age, I'll get more spices and musk. Still, it's a very pretty scent, definitely in my current top 5.

5 out of 5 stars!
