"The problem with LJ is we all think we are so close, but really we know nothing about each other. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away."

I'm not really expecting any questions, but what the heck?

How did you get your travel agent job?

You better pull up a chair, this is a long one. :-)
Right after high school, I spent a semester at a very expensive private college in Lincoln before I flunked out. (Couldn't adjust to living away from home, even though it was only an hour away.) After that, I had a couple of day care jobs I hated, a fast food job I really hated, and then the Army came recruiting. They mentioned I'd get to travel, and even Mom noticed my eyes light up. I knew the Army was definitely not for me, but travel sounded great. So, I enrolled at a local business college. The Tour & Travel diploma program was a year, and for the first time ever (if not since elementary school), I got A's and B's (and even straight A's one quarter). Once I graduated, I started looking for travel agent jobs, but everyone wanted someone with at least two years experience, and my schooling only counted for six months. Then, AmEx Travel was looking for people with no experience whatsoever. They hired me and I was able to skip their mini-travel school classes and go straight to learning the accounts and how the office works. The rest is history. :-)
