Up to my eyeballs in Canon.

Who knew Sir Arthur Conan Doyle knew so much about American culture of the 1800s? It turns out that STUD concerns the Mormon founders of Salt Lake City. He doesn't paint them in a flattering light, if that's what you're wondering. I'm currently on Part 2, Chapter 6. One chapter to go after this one.

One of the pastiche books I ordered came in yesterday. It's called The Affair of the Incognito Tenant: A Mystery with Sherlock Holmes by Lora Roberts. It's set during Sherlock's "Great Hiatus," the three years between faking his death in Doyle's The Final Problem (FINA), and his return in Doyle's The Empty House (EMPT). The book sounds really good (it has Sherlock falling in love), but I think I'd better read the Canon up till FINA.

Though, if all the stories are as detailed as STUD is turning out to be, it's gonna be a while.

On the bright side, I'm seeing more and more how proper mysteries are written.
