The Salon

The Salon Exhibit I
And There Was A Great Cry In Egypt, reviewed 3-20-08
Dark myrrh, white sandalwood, amber, hyssop, frankincense, honey, cypress, red musk, cardamom and saffron.

On me, this seems to be incense resins, amber, and maybe some musk. It's a very warm, dry scent. I like it, but it doesn't have much staying power on me.

Carceri d'Invenzione, reviewed 9-05-08
Redwood, red sandalwood, black pepper, blonde tobacco and frankincense.

On me, Carceri d'Invenzione is just redwood and sandalwood. It's nice but not me.

Cloister Graveyard in the Snow, reviewed 8-31-08
Three white musks, ozone, frankincense, mint.

On me, Cloister Graveyard is a lot of ozone and mint over some musk. I'd almost swear there's pine in here too. This is a great scent.

The Death of Sardanapal, reviewed 4-05-08
Red wine, gurjum balsam, dark myrrh, honey, cassia, lemongrass, palmarosa, elemi, cognac and olibanum.

On me, The Death of Sardanapal has a top note of honey, a middle note of red wine, and a base note of myrrh. It's very sexy and heady. Unfortunately, it started to burn so I had to wash it off. Someone else can enjoy this one.

The Fox-Woman Kuzunoha Leaving Her Child, reviewed 11-18-08
White tea, cherry blossom, wisteria, star jasmine, and teak.

On me, Fox-Woman is cherry blossom, wisteria, and jasmine over tea. I love it, I just wish the flowers were stronger.

The Isle of the Dead, reviewed 11-18-08
Cypress, labdanum, stargazer lily, juniper, yew, black rose, white sandalwood, benzoin and aquatic notes.

All I seem to get from The Isle of the Dead is yew, black rose, and the aquatic notes. It's interesting, but I think it needs to age a bit.

Lucretia, reviewed 11-18-08
Iris, black amber, sage, Kashmir wood, vanilla musk, mandarin and violet.

On me, Lucretia is just violet and iris. It's nice but not what I'm looking for, so I'll pass it on.

Orpheus, reviewed 11-18-08
Pale musk, green mandarin, neroli, benzoin, citrus peel, blue lavender, narcissus, stephanotis, crushed green stems, willow branch and cedar.

In the imp, I get just the green stems. On my skin, it's that plus the mandarin, neroli, and citrus peel over the musk. This is neutral and very nice.

The Penitent Magdalen, reviewed 9-21-08
Immortelle, lily of the valley, gaiac, amber, honey, white sandalwood, almond flower, blonde musk, and hyssop.

The Penitent Magdalen seems to clash with my skin chemistry -- it wavers between floral soap and lily of the valley, honey, and almond flower. Someone else can have this.

The Salon Exhibit II
The Cup of Death, reviewed 8-21-10
Peach blossom and peach tree leaf, Mysore sandalwood, French lavender, bois du rose, myrtle, and blue yarrow.

In the imp and on my skin, The Cup of Death is peach single note. The imp is around two years old, so maybe the other notes aged out. Or maybe I amp peach. Still, I'm not complaining -- I love peaches.

Cupid Complaining To Venus, reviewed 2-19-08
Apple blossom, fig, white peach, honey absolute, red sandalwood, and wild thyme.

On me, Cupid Complaining To Venus is apples, a lot of honey, and maybe a little bit of peach. It's very sweet. I like it, but it's not something I'd wear every day.

The Ecstasy of St. Theresa, reviewed 9-07-08
Frankincense, iris, white gardenia, Roman chamomile, amber, and agarwood.

In the imp, The Ecstasy of St. Theresa is just frankincense. On me, it's iris, gardenia, and chamomile. It's pretty, but too light for me.

Judith Victorious, reviewed 9-13-08
Chestnut blossom, lily of the valley, King mandarin, French magnolia, and golden musk.

On me, Judith Victorious is chestnut, a lot of mandarin, and maybe some musk. This is interesting, and I'll definitely keep it around.

Melancholia, reviewed 1-23-08
Blue lilac, white sandalwood, stargazer lily, paperwhite narcissus, ylang ylang, delphinium, and cypress.

On me, Melancholia is lily and a hint of lilac. It's not what I was expecting, but still very pretty.

The Salon Exhibit III
Bat, reviewed 8-04-08
Dusty amber, grey musk, red orchid, moonflower, night-blooming phlox, stock, honeysuckle, English ivy, toadflax, and purple salvia.

On me, Bat is moonflower, phlox, stock, and honeysuckle. Very pretty and feminine, and my new favorite Salon.

Cleopatra Testing Poisons on Those Condemned to Death, reviewed 7-02-07
Accords of peach kernel, hemlock, aconite, and belladonna, with bitter almond, saffron, honey, myrrh, hyssop, frankincense, and palm.

In the bottle and wet on my skin, Cleopatra Testing Poisons smelled like chocolate and herbs, like a weaker April '07 13. Dry, it smells like slightly bitter flowers. I like it and I'll keep the bottle, but I don't think I'll wear it often.

Mad Meg, reviewed 1-18-08
Fire-scorched earth, black mandarin, cinnamon bark, bitter almond, sage, vetiver, and balsam of peru.

In the imp and wet on my skin, Mad Meg is almond and cinnamon. Not really me. The cinnamon started to burn so I had to wash it off. Someone else can enjoy this.

Schlafende Baigneuse, reviewed 1-24-08
Skin musk, white cream, honeycomb, yellow rose, King mandarin, chrysanthemum, golden amber, honeysuckle, and wide-throated yellow monkey-flower accord.

Wet on my skin, Schlafende Baigneuse is a light rose and honey, very pretty. Unfortunately, my skin changes it to floral soap before it's even dry. Someone else can enjoy this.

The Smiling Spider, reviewed 1-15-08
Bitter clove, black musk, mahogany wood, and patchouli.

In the imp and wet on my skin, The Smiling Spider is very dark. I think it's the clove and black musk. It's a nice scent but not me. Unfortunately, the clove started to burn so I had to wash it off. Someone else can enjoy this.

Sunflower, reviewed 8-15-08
Sunflower bouquet, black amber, creeping black moss, wilted greenery, and scorched, dry stems.

Unfortunately, I get nothing from Sunflower except a soapy floral scent. Not for me.
