Hurry up and wait

Yesterday was Robert's 23rd birthday. He, Lindsey, her parents, her sister, Mom, Dad, Mark, Patty, and I went to Carlos O'Kelly's for dinner last night. It's a pretty good Mexican restaurant chain. Of course, I had the chicken fingers basket. :-) Robert sat across from me and kept stealing my French fries. I guess being a year older didn't make him any more mature.

After dinner, we went back to Robert and Lindsey's apartment for cake and presents. Their two cats, Sandy and Valentine, were there waiting for us. After petting both and holding Valentine (thereby getting fur all over my shirt), I sat back and watched as Robert opened his gifts: an Irish sweater, black dockers, a Will Ferrell DVD, a documentary about the Mafia on DVD, and Spongebob Squarepants boxers. I gave him a plush Gary the Snail from Spongebob. He even meows and he'll go well with the plush Spongebob and Patrick I've already given Robert.

Patty started having contractions again, for the umpteenth time. Mark raced her to the hospital. Of course, the doctor stopped the contractions and sent her home again. I think Kalob wanted to be the center of attention again.

I wish they'd hurry up and have that baby already.

Sheesh.

Also, I've been holding back, but I'm not happy with Fed Ex right now, so I'm going to take it out on your family. Kalob? The Ka doesn't bother me so much as the lob half. It just looks ugly. Sorry. It's probably just my mood.

What can I say?
Patty has her own way of spelling things. The baby's full name is Kalob Micheal (and not Caleb Michael) Robert Williamson. Can you imagine his poor teachers when he's older? Or anyone else who has to spell his name.

And is it any wonder that people are already mixing up his name and the name of his older half-brother Jacob (who died from SIDS in May)? Part of me is thinking that Patty sees Kalob as Jacob's replacement.

Re: What can I say?
But...but...that's not a different way to spell Michael. That's the wrong way to spell Michael.

They're going to think his parents are stupid, that's what they're going to think.

Re: What can I say?
Basically, yeah. The baby's not born yet (as far as I know), so there's still time to convince her to spell it properly. Then again, Jacob's full name was Jacob Austin Micheal Williamson (Patty has the same last name we do *hums "It's A Small World After All"*), so she now has a history of not being able to spell names properly.

Re: What can I say?
Maybe the people that type up the birth certificate can be influenced ($$$) to spell it correctly, you know accidentally. :)

Re: What can I say?
Now there's an interesting idea. I wonder how much it would take. Of course, knowing Patty, she'd find out it was me and then there's no telling what she'd do. :-)

Gracias. I can see it now, The Caleb, Not Kalob Fund. I wonder if the donors could get tax deductions. :-)

Hell, I'll throw in $25, and never let it be said that I don't love children.

I could definitely spare $50, just to make things easier for everyone who'll know this kid in the future.

Re: What can I say?
That's what I threatened to do to my sister and her husband. I was pulling for Chloe when Autumn was born.

I have a series of baby names picked out, but mostly for girls. One backup boy name. We don't have boys very often.

Molly Susan and Rebecca Grace...nice solid girl names. Molly I especially like and Rebecca is my mom's name. And my mother has this desperate wish that I give birth to boy-girl twins, and name them Desmond and Molly. Like the Beatles song. I've told this story before. But the name Desmond grew on me. Desmond James. It's not a common Michael/Christopher/John name. But still a nice solid name.

Who invited some of these other kids to the party? Cherish, Hunter, Tyler, Kinsey, Xandria, Karma, Rohan, where did these people come from? Weird baby names. And anyone who puts an I where a Y should be. That bugs me.

Of course, we have the misspelled names. Malisa. Oh fuck that just makes me want to choke people. I see that all the time. Oh yeah, I know, the different spelling makes her special. You know what? If someone calls to her in a crowd, the other ten Melissas will still turn around and you know what else? Malisa doesn't have a song. The Melissas do. Malisa is going to have a hard time finding a personalized pencil, won't she? Melissas won't. You know what you get when you look up Malisa in a name dictionary? SEE MELISSA. It's not her fault, it's her parents trying to be different, like being unique is a surface quality. I just don't think Patty's giving Kalob Micheal Robert (3 names?) a head start. I know you can't do anything about it. I'm just expressing myself. At length. Sorry.

What's in a name?
Autumn is a very pretty name, and it suits her.

I think the name Avalon would be good for a girl, but it's not exactly common. In reality, I'd probably name a girl Elizabeth. I'm such a P&P fan.

Yeah, the alternate spellings drive me nuts. Poor Kalob won't be able to find anything with his name on it.

Re: What's in a name?
Oh, and the three name thing. I don't know where Patty and Mark got Kalob, but Micheal is from Jacob and Robert is from our brother. Have I mentioned that Mark and Patty plan to name a daughter Justice Marianne Williamson?

Re: What's in a name?
Mark said that he went to school with a girl named Justice. He wasn't particularly close to her, he just thinks it's a cool name. What if she wants to be a judge? Then she'd be Justice Justice Marianne Williamson. *rolls eyes*

Re: What's in a name?
Elizabeth is good. Darcy would be a cute too.

Autumn's okay. Autumn Nicole. It's pretty. She looks like her name. She would've been a cute Chloe too, though.

Tara. Trent Nicholas (ditchdigger's real name). Angelique. Nicola. Erin. Jeremy. Virginia. Patrick. Could you get any more solid than Patrick, I ask you?

Melissa Carol, Melinda Caren. Caren is spelled with a K. *slaps her mother* She says if she could do it all over again it would be Melissa Rose and Melinda Louise. I like that. Mindy doesn't, but I didn't ask her. I think calling her Mindy Lou would be cute as hell and the long version is so nice. My brother is Daniel Steven. I love that.

Re: What's in a name?
Darcy's a good girl's name, but I wouldn't name one daughter Elizabeth and another daughter Darcy. You know... Elizabeth Darcy (blank) would be a cute name. :-)

Have you noticed that people end up resembling what you think a person with that name would?

I love the name Melissa Rose. My mother said that she would've named me Victoria if she hadn't gone with Tara. Mindy Lou is cute, but think of all the Dr. Seuss jokes she'd hear. LOL

I've always like my uncle's name... Jalke.
My parnet's introduced us to him as Uncle Jack, and for the longest time, I thought his name was actually Jack.
