I don't believe in ghosts. Having said that, I will admit that I do like to read about haunted castles and all that. Two people I know believe in ghosts and claim to have seen them -- Patty and one of my coworkers.

Anyway, last Thursday night, Patty's mother Laurie had dinner with us then wasn't feeling well, so she stayed the night and slept on the couch in the family room.

After Dad and I left for work, Mom (who had the whole day off, lucky her) felt someone get into bed with her. She was half-asleep at the time, and reached over to see who it was. She felt what she thought was a ponytail and figured it was Laurie and thought that Dad had suggested that she sleep in Mom and Dad's bed since it was more comfortable. Mom didn't have a problem with this and went back to sleep.

When she woke up later that morning, Mom was the only one in the bed. When she asked Laurie, Patty, and Mark who had been in bed with her, they said nobody.

Mom says that she could have dreamt about someone being in bed with her.

However, that night at dinner, Mark and Patty (who sleep in the basement) said that sometimes they can hear a cat meowing and moving around on the first floor. I've spent a few nights lately on the couch in the living room, and I haven't heard any meowing, though there are times when I have heard things moving around. I think it might be mice, since we had problems with them last winter. I haven't seen any yet, and the traps have remained empty.

It is possible that Boots, our next-door neighbors' cat, could have gotten into the house. He's been in our garage overnight a couple of times, but no one has seen him in the house.

If Mark and Patty did actually hear a cat and it wasn't Boots, then who was it? One possibility (and I know how Mulder I sound when I say this) is that it could be my cat, KiDee. KiDee died in October of '02. We had him cremated, and we buried his cremains in the backyard.

A ghost cat (if ghosts exist) could have made those noises that Mark and Patty heard. But, ghosts aren't solid, so while Mom could have felt a cat's tail instead of a human's ponytail, it seems unlikely. Besides, KiDee always hated it when people touched his tail, so it seems really unlikely that it was him.

So, what's been causing all the weird experiences? A ghost? Dreams? Figments of the imagination? You decide.
